These spaces are open to kids, adults, and entrepreneurs and have a variety of maker equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters,A makerspace is a collaborative work space inside a school, library or separate public/private facility for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools. cnc machines, soldering irons and even sewing machines. A makerspace however doesn’t need to include all of these machines or even any of them to be considered a makerspace. If you have cardboard, legos and art supplies you’re in business. It’s more of the maker mindset of creating something out of nothing and exploring your own interests that’s at the core of a makerspace. These spaces are also helping to prepare those who need the critical 21st centuryskills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). They provide hands on learning, help with critical thinking skills and even boost self-confidence. Some of the skills that are learned in a makerspace pertain to electronics, 3d printing, 3D modeling, coding, robotics and even woodworking, Makerspaces are also fostering entrepreneurship and are being utilized as incubators and accelerators for business startups. There have already been some amazing success stories that have come out of makerspaces to date. Creative Spaces: Makerspace, Whats it all about? Our new Makerspace is a brand new space at The Pump established to inspire and innovate, though a fully-kitted workshop giving you the power to turn ideas and concepts into reality.The Pumps Makerspace offers you and your group, the opportunity to foster entrepreneurial spirit, by providing a high spec space, along with high-tech and traditional equipment to turn ideas into working prototypes and designs. The space caters for up to 25 young people with additional breakout space for workshops and small group work.The Makerspace is Ideal for school groups to expand their STEM offer, enabling young people to learn new skills giving them that edge for a career in the creative industry, manufacturing, and engineering. Also a great opportunity for artists and self-employed makers to utilise. Accreditations We are an accredited centre with NCFE and can deliver Qualifications in line with workshops or separately. Our accreditations include: NCFE Level 1 Award in Radio NCFE Entry Level Award in Creative Craft NCFE Level 1 Award in Developing Enterprise Skills NCFE Level 1 Award in Music Technology SEMH in young people SEMH (Social emotional and Mental Health) awareness in young people is as important as ever with cases of young people seeking support tripling since the pandemic. The Pump can provide SEMH awareness and resilience workshops to help your young people cope with any issues they may be dealing with. They will have a better understanding of different SEMH conditions and be able to support their peers and make them aware of different strategies and services available to them.Our workshop is delivered by friendly approachable youth workers. All of them mental health first aid trained. It is our responsibility to ensure our young people are happy, resilient and able to express themselves or to communicate when things aren't going well for them. One in six children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2021, a huge increase from one in nine in 2017. That's one children in every classroom. The number of A&E attendances by young people aged 18 or under with a recorded diagnosis of a psychiatric condition more than tripled between 2010 and 2018-19. 83% of young people with mental health needs agreed that the coronavirus pandemic had made their mental health worse. In 2018-19, 24% of 17-year-olds reported having self-harmed in the previous year, and seven per cent reported having self-harmed with suicidal intent at some point in their lives. 16% reported high levels of psychological distress. Suicide was the leading cause of death for males and females aged between five to 34 in 2019. Nearly half of 17-19 year-olds with a diagnosable mental health disorder has self-harmed or attempted suicide at some point, rising to 52.7% for young women Workshops The Pump offers a wide range of workshops to cater toSTEAM and SEMH needs, bespoke workshops to meet the direct needs of the educational setting that we work with. We are also accredited with NCFE and can offer accreditation for several qualifications.
