Callum approached the Pump in mid-2019 after hearing about the Work Experience scheme. He had been applying to the high profile apprenticeship schemes at companies like JLR but had experienced a few knockbacks.

He had a keen interest in manufacturing and engineering but it’s fair to say his confidence was low and had been out of work for some time. After explaining the ins and outs we signed Callum onto Cohort 5 and kicked off the employability section in September. Callum was quick to grasp the message behind the exercises and quickly built skills in how to effectively construct cover letters and job applications. When it came time for the work experience placements, Callum was placed with Armagard Ltd, a company based in Kitts Green who manufactures specialist TV screen enclosures.

Callum immediately marked himself as a hard-working and conscientious member of the team and was put forward for extra training. As the 100 hour period came to an end the manager at Armagard offered Callum full-time employment which he accepted. After 2 months of employment, he has reported that he’s getting on really well, enjoying the challenge and is really happy to secure employment on the run-up to Christmas.

Callum has since stopped into the Pump to pick up his new Samsung phone in recognition of completing the course. After a couple of years unemployment, Callum has a new phone and a new job all because he took a chance and signed up with the Pump’s employment program, congratulations to Callum.
